Directive legislative act

A regulation is a binding legislative act. It must be applied in its entirety across the EU. Directives are also legislative acts of the Parliament but are general in nature and not binding. The General Product Safety Directive complements sector specific legislation such as specific rules that apply to toys, electrical and electronic goods, cosmetics, chemicals and other specific product groups.
